According to National Weather Service live briefing November 4, 2026 at 3 AM EST, the USA is split into three: Cold and Snow in the West with -4F blizzard conditions, Tornado Threat in the middle with severe storms from Louisiana to Georgia, and Warm and Humid in the East with 78F and windy.

COLD AND SNOW – ROCKIES EARLY WINTER STORM – BLIZZARD CONDITIONS -4F

Winter has arrived early. NWS Weather Prediction Center confirms: Heavy snow expected above 10,000 feet in Colorado San Juan Mountains. Winter storm warning remained in effect for southwest Colorado until noon Monday November 3 with 12 to 18 inches of snow forecast. Winter weather advisory for northeast Utah through early Monday with 2 to 4 inches additional snow and winds gusting to 45 mph.

In high elevations of Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, sticking snow fell Monday-Tuesday November 3-4. Temperatures dropped to -4F in high mountain passes with blizzard conditions, whiteout visibility, and wind chill near -15F. Colorado DOT reported chain law in effect on US-550 Red Mountain Pass and Wolf Creek Pass.

Ski resorts Telluride, Purgatory, Wolf Creek, Park City report first base building. This is 6 to 12 inch range on average, 18 inch in San Juan peaks. A new Pacific storm expected to pound ashore along West Coast late this week will bring additional wintry weather at high elevations of Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West Thursday-Friday. Northern California will see steady rain November 3-4, with snow above 5000 feet.

Denver faced dense fog advisory early morning November 2 with visibility below quarter mile. NWS Denver: Early morning visibility could fall below quarter mile, causing travel hazard around Denver International Airport and I-25, I-70. Fog plus cold created icy spots on bridges.

TORNADO THREAT – LOUISIANA ARKANSAS TENNESSEE GEORGIA – 11 STATE ALERT

NWS Storm Prediction Center severe outlook November 4: Thunderstorms will have potential to produce isolated severe wind gusts and perhaps a brief tornado or two from Texas Louisiana border to mid-Mississippi Valley. Greatest severe weather risk Wednesday covers East Tennessee, eastern Alabama, southwestern North Carolina, northwestern South Carolina and much of northern and central Georgia, including Atlanta. Damaging wind gusts are expected to be main threat, but isolated tornadoes are possible beginning late Wednesday morning.

Real events today: On November 3 at 3 PM local time, NWS Shreveport issued tornado warning for Northwestern Lincoln Parish, West Central Union Parish, and East Central Claiborne Parish in Louisiana. Shortly after, Fox Weather confirmed tornado touched down in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, with debris reported near Barksdale Air Force Base area. No injuries reported but power lines down.

Total 11 states were placed on tornado alert November 3-4 night: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia. This is huge national report.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski: Strongest storms could produce damaging wind gusts 50 to 60 mph, Local StormMax 75 mph. A few tornadoes, hail and flash flooding also possible. More than 21 million people across at least 7 states were at marginal to slight risk of severe thunderstorms on Monday November 3.

For today November 4, excessive rainfall threat Level 2 of 4 Slight Risk exists for 7 states: Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas. The area of rain currently over ArkLaTex into Missouri will push into Slight Risk area late this afternoon evening.

Heavy to excessive rainfall will continue today across portions of Southwest and Four Corners Region, leading to flash, urban and small stream flooding. Significant river flooding expected through Monday. 15 river gauges in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico set all-time record crests November 1. San Juan River at Pagosa Springs crested 19.71 feet, breaking old record 17.8 feet.

WARM AND HUMID – 78F WARM AND WINDY EAST COAST BEFORE RAIN

While West is -4F snow, East Coast is 78F warm, windy and humid before rain. This temperature contrast is driving severe weather.

Weather.com notes: November begins with unseasonable warmth across much of US, particularly warm for middle of nation. Afternoon temperatures from Texas to Minnesota on Monday November 3 were as much as 10 to 20 degrees or more above average. Eastern US from Florida to Washington DC to New York recorded 75 to 78F on November 3, which is 15F above normal for November.

This warm moist air from Gulf of Mexico is feeding severe storms. Humidity dew points in 65-70F range in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia are more typical of August, not November. That is why tornadoes are possible in November – unusually warm.

But cold front will break warmth. Behind front, temperatures will drop to chilly side from Northwest to Rockies and far northern upper Midwest, but rebound by afternoon. East Coast will stay warm until Thursday, then heavy rain arrives.

FLORIDA FLOODING AFTERMATH

No USA national report is complete without Florida. As of November 4, Florida remains under emergency.

Real numbers: Grant-Valkaria 24.69 inches, Malabar 24.2 inches, Melbourne 11.03 inches on November 2 wettest day in 89 years. Governor emergency 7 counties: Brevard, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Indian River, Martin, St. Lucie. St. Johns River at Astor 4.5 feet, flood stage 2.5 feet. Peace River at Arcadia 12.3 feet.

Fort Lauderdale to Boca Raton still faces conditional urban flash flood risk with 2-4 inches per hour possible if storms backbuild toward coast. Coastal flood advisory for Broward and Palm Beach until 7 PM EST November 3, with 6-7 foot breaking waves, dangerous rip currents, high surf advisory. Hundreds rescued, 2 dead in Brevard and Broward, White City area south of Fort Pierce homes flooded around South 25th Street and Bell Avenue November 3.

I-95 EAST COAST RAIN

After tornado threat today, next searchable topic is I-95 heavy rain. Fox Weather: Heavy rain expected to arrive along East Coast Thursday and stall over I-95 corridor late Thursday into Friday. Widespread rainfall 1+ inch, localized 2-3 inches from eastern Virginia, Maryland and southeast New England. Level 1 flash flood risk New York City through Boston into Portland, Maine Friday. Heavy rain could linger into Saturday morning.

120 million people impacted by end of week, 35 states total. This is national report.

NATIONAL WIND ADVISORY – 55+ MPH FOUR STATES

NWS issued wind advisory November 3 for New Mexico, Tennessee, Alaska, California with 55+ mph gusts. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

SAFETY FOR THIS WEEK

Turn Around Don’t Drown. Do not drive through flooded roads. Secure outdoor objects before wind. Have tornado shelter in Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia. Avoid beach in Florida due to rip currents. Check I-95 traffic Thursday-Friday.

CONCLUSION

This week weather USA is a textbook cross-country storm evolution: Starts in Southwest with record river flooding, moves through central US with 75 mph winds and tornadoes, hits Florida with historic 24-inch rain and emergency declaration, brings snow to Rockies 6-18 inches, and finally stalls over I-95 East Coast with 2-4 inch heavy rain and Level 1 flash flood risk from New York to Boston.
